Children are at risk as unlicensed minicabs are operating on school contracts across London without any insurance or vehicle safety documents.
By stating that their vehicles are not made available to the general public, these illegal vehicles avoid the normal rules for licensing, and are able to enter into contracts with unknowing schools. Mayor Ken Livingstone and Transport for London are lobbying the Government to close this loophole and have urged schools to terminate contracts with any unlicensed taxi services.

The number of women being raped or sexually assaulted by bogus
minicab drivers in London has dropped by a third in the last two
years.
Speaking at a recent launch of a new advertising campaign to remind
women of the dangers of getting into unlicensed minicabs Mayor of
London Ken Livingstone said that in 2003-04 140 women were assaulted as compared with 212 in 2001 - 02. This also includes a fall in rapes from 53 to 32. However despite the fall the Mayor points out that there are still 11 women a month getting raped and sexually attacked in minicabs in the capital.
