Cardiff Council reveals Christmas campaign
Cardiff Council is hoping to influence revellers at Christmas and New Year by promoting the use of properly licensed taxis and private hire vehicles in the City.
Taxiwise is fully supportive of Cardiff Council who ensures that the licensed vehicles within the City are safe and comfortable and that all drivers have a good knowledge of the area.
Councilor Bob Smith, Chair of the Public Protection Committee, said: “It is easy to become complacent when travelling home from a party or night out and jump into the first vehicle you see. We urge all taxi users not to take risks with how you get home and travel safely in a properly licensed taxi or private hire vehicle.”
“Public safety is of great concern to Cardiff Council and we are calling on the public to report any problems “The Council has issued some helpful tips to ensure that taxi users have a safe journey during this busy time of year. These include checking the cab licence plate at the rear of the vehicle and ensuring that the driver’s identification badge has not expired.
Along with their Christmas safety campaign, Cardiff Council has also reintroduced a taxi marshalling scheme in the City. This initiative improves safety and efficiency in queues during late night peak periods. After new funding was secured, the scheme has returned to St Mary Street and Greyfriars Road where taxi marshals provide a rounded service ensuring that people queue properly and leave the City centre safely. The marshals also help visitors by giving directions and work along side the local police force in identifying possible troublespots.
Taxiwise encourages and welcomes any decision that is made by City Councils that fund safety initiatives and help people get home quickly and unharmed.
